Upcoming Concert: Brass for Kids!

February 18, 2:00 PM

This Family Day weekend, the Mill Creek Colliery Band will present a family-friendly concert ‘Brass For Kids’, to be performed on Saturday, February 18th, 2:00pm, at the Dutch Canadian Club (13312 – 142 Street NW, Edmonton). This short afternoon concert is the perfect place to introduce children to live music and brass instruments, all while listening to their favourite songs. Kids of all ages are welcome!

Edmonton’s own 28-piece brass band, under the leadership of principal conductor David Hoyt, will help you celebrate the Family Day weekend by presenting an entertaining concert that will delight the whole family. The program will feature music that will be familiar, including: music and video clips from the popular films Frozen (Anderson/Lopez) and Kung Fu Panda 2 (Powell/Zimmer), Muppet Show Theme (Henson/Pottle), and the rip-snortin’ overture to one of Mozart’s most popular works The Marriage of Figaro. Several soloists from the band will introduce you to their instruments in delightful pieces such as Bare Necessities (featuring bass soloist Michael Eastep as Baloo from The Jungle Book), Ducky (cornet soloist David Langor aka ‘Ducky’), and Dem Bones (a lesson about the human skeleton provided by the trom’bone’ section….get it?). Audience members will have opportunities to participate.

Child educator and Congenital Heart Disease advocate, Amy Porter, will enrich the program with some fun information about the band, brass instruments and the featured music. As usual, there will be a door prize draw with kid-friendly prizes.

We care deeply about our audience. Although there are no mandatory public health measures, masking and spacing is encouraged to reduce risk of sharing the misery of the variety of ‘bugs’ plaguing our community. Hand sanitizer and wipes will be provided. The duration of the concert will be about 65 minutes and there will be no intermission. Parking is available next to the venue.

Come and join the MCCB for a highly entertaining afternoon that is sure to be a highlight of your Family Day weekend.
