Horns
Jane de Caen is a longtime member of the tenor horn section after ditching her trumpet. She is the proud mother of three successfully launched adult children and is delighted to be a grandmother. She met her husband when they both played in the Calgary Youth Orchestra. He is a busy doctor and string player and they share their home with a menagerie of pets. She is a retired physiotherapist and now enjoys gardening, curling, volunteering at YONA (ESO outreach program) and church. She is also setting up a new pottery studio. She has played in brass band workshops in the summer and in the Halifax Tattoo.
Carol Thurgood has a M.Ed. from the University of Victoria, and taught instrumental music for 26 years in the Edmonton area. Carol teaches Brass Techniques at the University of Alberta, and works for Alberta Education in the high school music curriculum sector. She was recently inducted into the International Fraternity of Bandmasters, Phi Beta Mu. Carol has performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Winds, MacEwan Theatre orchestra, Alberta Philharmonic, Concordia College Orchestra, St. Albert Children’s Theatre band, Mission Hill Brass Band, and The Mill Creek Colliery Band. She is married to Brian and they have 5 children, 1 dog and 6 grand-dogs.
