playing the trumpet to her cousin Jens Lindemann. Her love for Brass Banding comes from
her father who never fails to play rousing German marches such as the Radetzky,

Terrace Elementary school.

Vancouver. Patricia was new to brass banding when first asked to sub for MCCB in
2000. Previously her 30- something years of experience playing Baritone,
Euphonium and Trombone was limited to various concert and marching bands,
including five years as a professional musician with the Canadian Forces Vimy
Band. She holds a B.Sc from the University of Alberta, and is currently a
practicing registered dental hygienist.
|
| |
Dr. Troy Turner (First Baritone) has enjoyed Brass Band music since
discovering the Saskatoon Brass Band shortly after finishing high school.
Although work has taken him away from the SBB, he has been able to keep up his
interest in Edmonton, first by attending the North American Brass Band
Association conference in 2001, and now playing with the MCCB. Troy supports his
music habit by practicing Pediatric Emergency Medicine. His wife Taina has
subbed in the cornet section of the MCCB, and is pursuing a MA in Wind Band
Conducting at the University of Alberta.

|
Dr. Chris Diaper (Solo Euphonium) As a teenager in
England, Chris came to the conclusion that playing the euphonium was unlikely to
pay the bills and decided to take up a career in chemistry. An unforeseen
consequence of this decision occurred a decade later when he immigrated to
Canada to work at the Universityof Alberta. Much to his surprise, he’s
still in Edmonton seven years later and enjoying a double life as scientist and
freelance musician.

Nancy Thornhill (First Trombone)
started playing trombone at an early age in a Salvation Army band and credits
her love of playing to the many fine musicians who inspired her along the way.

studied trombone at the Conservatory of Quebec. Nancy has recently returned to
Edmonton (July 2008) after living in Dubai, in the Middle East, where she taught

Kevin Semenjuk ( Bass Trombone) has been playing in MCCB since the spring of 2008. He first played the trombone back in his high school days at Parkside in Dundas, Ontario, and has enjoyed playing ever since. His love for making music started out when his parents started his 10 years of violin studies at age 5. Since then, he has enjoyed learning how to play a few other string and brass instruments as well. In addition to playing in MCCB, he plays in his church brass band, orchestra and other smaller ensembles from time to time. He also enjoys directing the youth choir at his church, as well as volunteering in other areas. Kevin is a Chartered Accountant by day, is very happily married to Rosalie and is a proud father of Joel Amadeus and Tabea, who are both already showing a keen interest in brass music.

| |
Dietmar Sedens (Eb Bass): Born in Edmonton, Dietmar's introduction
to music began at age 6 with eight years of violin studies with Marlin Wolff
(ESO), followed by two years of viola with Evan Verchomin (ESO). He always
wanted to play trombone, and upon entering the band program at Strathcona
Composite High School he chose the bass trombone. However, since there were
no tuba players in band that year the band teacher gently "persuaded" him to
double on the tuba. Thus began a life long love affair with the tuba! Dietmar
has played tuba in the New Edmonton Wind Sinfonia, church brass bands, and is
enjoying his introduction to British brass banding with the MCCB.
|
| |
Paul Buckingham (Eb Bass)
Born and raised in the UK, Paul began learning the tuba at the age of 12 and has
never looked back. After initially playing in brass and wind bands, he spent his
university years playing with various amateur symphony orchestras in Durham and
Sheffield. It was during this time that he discovered the beauty of orchestral
tuba parts, which, although sparse in notes, are dense in value.
Paul's arrival in Canada in 2008, to take up an assistant professorship in
mathematics at the University of Alberta, saw a return to the band scene. He is
extremely happy to be a member of the Mill Creek Colliery Band and the Wednesday
night Festival City Winds Band. Both always leave him with a smile on his
face.

| |
Grant Kemp (Bb Bass) has been playing brass for 12 years. Starting on
the baritone he has since played the Euphonium, Trombone and Tuba. Grant first
started playing 'brass band' music on the Euphonium and Trombone with band-mate
Jane de Caen and past member John Farmer in brass quintet. He started with the
MCCB in January 2005 on Bb tuba and has also played Tuba and Bass trombone in
the University of Alberta's concert band and symphonic wind ensemble and with
the 'Blow it Out Your Brass' quintet. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree
in biochemistry at the University of Alberta and loves making music in his spare
time.
|
| |
Drew Bowering (Bb Bass) first picked up the Tuba in the
school band at age 12 very shortly after starting on Euphonium. Within a
very short time, he was encouraged to begin playing in the community as well as
school. He has studied tuba with Dennis Miller and Scott Whetham, and has
taken lessons or masterclasses with Roger Bobo, John Griffiths, and Lance
Nagels. Drew currently plays with the MCCB and the New Edmonton Wind
Sinfonia, and by day is a systems analyst at NorQuest College.
